The Breffni CHallenge: cAVAN/BALLINAGH TO ARVA

The Breffni Challenge has raised roughly €850,000 for cancer organisations in the past decade, this year Saturday, August 3rd, marks the eleventh anniversary. With eight weeks to go, this goal could offer you a great way of getting fit and healthy for the summer, as well as raising money to help prevent or deal with this all too common disease, which affects almost every family in some form...

The Breffni Challenge 2013 will take place on Saturday 3rd August from Cavan to Arva. Participants can walk, jog, run and cycle the two distances from Cavan to Arva and Ballinagh to Arva. Cavan to Arva 20km and Ballinagh to Arva 13km This year funds are being raised in aid of The Friends of St Luke's Dublin, NBCRI Galway and Cavan Homecare Association.

 On the Day !

You must register at either starting points
20km from Cavan to Arva – registration at the Meadow View from 12 noon, start time 2pm
13km from Ballinagh to Arva – registration at Tom Moore’s Spar from 12.45pm, start time 2.30pm

Celebrate !

After the challenge, you may feel in need of some TLC, and organisers are keen to show their appreciation to ensure that participants are well looked after.
Whether you run at top speed or stagger to the finish line, you get a medal, t-shirt, certificate and relaxing massage. Then, the celebrations start, with the Homecoming On The Market Square: there’s a barbecue, music by Eddie Quinn, street entertainment and family fun, with M.C. Gerry Brady jovially welcoming the participants with his unique brand of humour and warmth.
Participants and supporters can then opt for a buffet in the Breffni Arms, Arva, followed by live music and a disco.

 

Arva 3 Province Festival !

This year the Arva 3 Province Festival is running from 26th July to 5th August, as part of the Gathering Ireland with a festival of history, culture and fun that will showcase all that Arva and the surrounding areas have to offer.  With a list of events ranging from the Ghosts of Arva Exhibition, the Old Arva Fair Day the Arva 3 Province Festival will cater for everyone, young and old and give visitors a look at why this area has thrived.  The Breffni Challenge is delighted to be part of this festival!!

Community effort !

Arva GFC and the community of Arva have been organising a cancer fundraiser for the past 13  years, with the event now known as The Breffni Challenge.
The fundraiser, whose main sponsors are Brady’s Volkswagen garage in Arva, Gerry Ellis & Sons’ Fresh Today and Dutchy’s Fitness, Cavan has grown ten-fold since the inaugural cycle over a decade ago, with word of it spreading throughout the country and further afield.
